ONHW Primary Initiatives
- Campus-based activities create opportunities for practical application of risk reduction and loss prevention efforts and provide educational opportunities for students. ONHW accomplishes this by providing internship opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate level students to work on community and statewide applied research projects under the direction of ONHW staff.
- Community-based activities seek to increase outreach and training in disaster preparedness and planning for Oregon communities. This component includes the development and implementation of the Pre-Disaster Mitigation training series for Oregon’s communities and implementation of the Institute for Business & Home Safety’s Showcase State initiative. ONHW also works with the Community Service Center's Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) Program to train and place graduate level students in the communities where they live and work for a year helping to increase the community’s disaster resilience and sustainability.
